Check your ticket for the departure station, not just the city

A ticket that says "Stockholm" as the departure city doesn't tell you whether that means the airport's own station or Stockholm Central further south. Long-distance and regional trains vary in which stations they actually call at — some routes serve the airport directly, others don't stop there at all. The departure station is printed on your ticket or booking confirmation; that's the detail to check, not the city name.

If your train leaves from the airport itself

This is the simpler case — you land, collect your luggage, and your onward train leaves from the same complex without a transfer into the city at all. The main thing to get right is timing: give yourself a real buffer between landing and your train's departure, since passport control, baggage claim and finding the right platform all take longer than they feel like they should on paper, especially with connecting luggage.

If your train leaves from Stockholm Central

This means an extra leg into the city before your long-distance journey even starts, and it's the version that catches people out — they've budgeted time for the flight and the train, but not for the transfer between them.
