If you already know a long family visit means more luggage than usual — because it always does, every time you make this trip — it's worth booking the right category from the start rather than booking Standard out of habit and adjusting later. Look at your last trip's bag count if you have a sense of it, add a bit for whatever's changed this time, and pick the category that comfortably covers it.

This matters more for a trip with a tight connection or an early check-in, where there's less slack to sort out a category change on the day. For a more relaxed departure, flagging an extra bag as it comes up is perfectly fine — the flexibility is there either way, but planning ahead makes the morning itself simpler.
