No Smoking, No Vaping: Rules in Swedish Taxis

Smoking is not permitted inside a Swedish taxi. That applies to cigarettes, e-cigarettes and vapes alike — the vehicle is the driver's workplace as well as a shared space other passengers will use after you, and Swedish workplace smoking law treats it accordingly. This is stated plainly in our own terms, and it's consistent across licensed operators generally, not a rule specific to any one company.

Nicotine pouches (snus) are the one exception worth knowing about if you're used to them — they're smokeless and very common in Sweden, and using one in the car isn't the same issue as lighting up. But anything that produces smoke or vapour is off the table for the whole ride.

If you want a cigarette or a vape before you get in, the practical move is to finish it before your driver actually arrives rather than mid-way through when the car pulls up. Drivers work on a schedule with other bookings after yours, and the 45 minutes of free waiting time that comes with every pickup is generous but not unlimited — it's there for genuine delays like passport queues and baggage, not for lingering by choice.

If you know in advance you'll want a few minutes at the pickup point, it's worth factoring that into when you head out to meet the car rather than treating it as something to squeeze in once the driver has already confirmed arrival.

Outdoor smoking in Sweden is more restricted than many visitors expect — it's banned at bus and train platforms, outside building entrances, and on many restaurant and café terraces, not just inside buildings. Arrivals halls and terminal buildings themselves are smoke-free throughout. Once you're outside the terminal at a general pickup point, ordinary outdoor smoking rules apply, so a quick cigarette while you wait is normally fine there — just be mindful of anyone standing close by.
