Starting a Stockholm Archipelago Trip from Arlanda

The Stockholm archipelago — tens of thousands of islands scattered east of the city — is one of the genuine reasons people extend a Stockholm trip by a day or two, and getting there starts on dry land: a ferry from a departure point in or near the city, timed to a schedule that doesn't wait for a delayed flight.

This guide covers the part of the journey we actually handle — Arlanda to the harbour or ferry terminal where your boat departs — and is clear about the part we don't: we drive you to the water's edge, we don't operate boats and we don't travel out to the islands themselves.

Arlanda to the archipelago: the transfer, not the crossing

Most archipelago boats leave from a handful of departure points in central Stockholm or from towns just outside it, and reaching one from Arlanda with luggage and a boat departure time to hit is exactly the kind of transfer that benefits from being booked in advance rather than worked out on arrival.

We take you from the terminal directly to your ferry departure point — a harbour in central Stockholm, or a mainland connection point such as Vaxholm, depending on which route you're taking into the archipelago — with a fixed price agreed before you fly and a pickup timed against your actual flight arrival.

Timing the transfer against a boat departure

Ferry schedules in the archipelago don't run as frequently as city buses, particularly outside peak summer season, so missing a departure can mean a genuinely long wait for the next one. We track your flight's actual landing time rather than the scheduled one, and if it's delayed, your driver's pickup moves with it — the fixed price you agreed doesn't change, but the plan is to get you to the harbour with time to spare rather than exactly on the deadline.

Build in a comfortable margin between your estimated arrival at the harbour and your boat's departure, especially for a first trip when you don't yet know the layout of the departure point.

What we do and don't cover

To be clear about the boundary: we operate transfers to Arlanda, Stockholm and Uppsala, which includes the drive to a harbour or mainland ferry connection point. We do not operate any part of the boat journey, and we don't drive out to the islands themselves — once you're at the departure point, the rest of the trip is by water.

Luggage for an archipelago trip

An archipelago trip often means different luggage than a standard city stay — a smaller overnight bag rather than full suitcases, sometimes outdoor or swimming gear depending on the season. Our standard categories handle a normal amount of luggage comfortably, and the SUV/XL category gives a family or small group more room if you're carrying extra gear for a longer stay on the islands.

Questions people ask before booking

Do you take passengers out to the archipelago islands themselves?

No. We drive you from Arlanda to the harbour or ferry departure point on the mainland — the boat crossing to the islands is a separate journey we don't operate.

Which departure points can you take me to?

Any harbour or ferry departure point within our Stockholm operating area, including central Stockholm departure points and mainland connections such as Vaxholm.

How much time should I leave between landing and my boat's departure?

We recommend a generous margin, particularly outside peak summer when ferries run less frequently. We time your pickup against your flight's actual arrival, but the boat schedule itself is outside our control.

What happens if my flight is delayed and I miss my boat?

We adjust your transfer pickup automatically to your flight's real arrival time, but we can't hold or rebook a ferry departure — check the ferry operator's rebooking options directly if your connection is tight.

Is the price for the whole car or per person?

For the whole car, regardless of how many people are travelling together, up to the vehicle's seating limit.

Can I book a return transfer from the harbour back to Arlanda?

Yes — book it the same way, with the harbour as your pickup and Arlanda as your destination, timed to your return flight.
