Joining a Yacht at a Stockholm Marina

Marinas don't work like hotels. The street address gets you to the gate, not the boat, and a big marina can have several hundred berths spread across multiple piers with their own access gates and numbering. If you're flying in to join a yacht rather than checking into a room, it's worth thinking about the last few hundred metres separately from the rest of the trip.

Why "the marina" isn't a full address

A marina's general address will get a car to the car park or the main gate, but the boat itself might be a ten-minute walk away down a specific pier, behind a gate that needs a code, or on the far side of the site from where a driver unfamiliar with the layout would naturally stop. None of that is obvious from the marina's name alone.

The fix is simple: put the pier number, berth number or gate code in your booking notes if you have it — from the skipper, the charter company or the marina office — so the drop-off point is as close to the actual boat as the marina layout allows.

What to tell us before you fly

If you don't have the exact pier yet when you book, that's fine — add it to the notes as soon as you have it, or send a message once you land if the skipper only confirms the berth on the day. A pickup with the right flight number attached still gets you there; the marina detail refines the last stretch, it doesn't change the booking.

Kit bags and the right car

Sailing luggage doesn't pack like holiday luggage — waterproof kit bags, boots, sometimes safety gear — and it's often bulkier per item than a soft suitcase even when the weight is similar. If you're travelling with the rest of the crew, choosing a vehicle category with enough seats and luggage room for the whole group in one car is usually simpler than splitting into two cars and coordinating two arrivals at the marina.

Set the marina as your destination, add the pier or berth detail in the notes if you have it, and attach your flight number so the pickup time follows your actual landing. The price is fixed for the whole car before you pay, whatever the crew's combined kit adds up to.

Questions people ask before booking

Do I need to know the exact pier before I book?

It helps but isn't required — you can add the pier or berth number to your booking notes as soon as you have it, even after the initial booking.

Can the driver reach the boat directly, or just the marina gate?

It depends on the marina's layout and any access restrictions on the pier. Giving us the pier number and any gate code in advance gets the drop-off as close to the boat as the site allows.

What if the whole crew is arriving with sailing kit bags?

Choose a vehicle category with enough seats and luggage room for the group, and mention any bulky items in the notes — we confirm it fits before pickup.

Is the price different for a marina drop-off compared to a hotel?

What if the skipper only confirms the berth on the day I land?

That's fine — send the detail once you have it, either in the booking notes beforehand or once you've landed, and the driver will have the latest information for the drop-off.
