Allergic to Animals? What You Can Ask For Before You Book
Updated 3 min read
A real animal allergy isn't a minor annoyance — a car that carried a dog or a cat not long before you got in can be enough to trigger it, even after the animal itself is long gone. If that's your situation, it's a reasonable thing to plan for rather than just hope for the best on the day.
Here's what's honest to say about it: a note on your booking, and what it can and can't guarantee.
What a note in your booking actually does
When you book, there's a notes field, and it's the right place to say plainly that you have an animal allergy and would appreciate a car that hasn't recently carried a pet. It's read and taken into account when a driver and car are assigned to your ride.
What it can't do is offer a guarantee that no animal has ever been in a specific vehicle — this is a shared fleet, and we're not going to promise something we can't verify car by car. What we can do is take a genuine allergy seriously and route around it where possible, which is different from a blanket promise.
Being specific helps
If you know your allergy is triggered by dander specifically, or you're fine with a car that's been cleaned since carrying a pet, say so — the more specific the note, the more useful it is. A vague "no pets please" is harder to act on than "severe cat allergy, please avoid a car that's carried a cat recently if you can."
What to do if you react during the ride
If you notice symptoms starting once you're in the car, say so straightaway rather than waiting it out — a window can be opened, and if it's serious enough to need medical attention, tell the driver directly. It's far better to speak up early than to try to push through discomfort for the rest of a ride to your destination.
Carrying your usual allergy medication in your cabin bag, rather than checked luggage, is worth doing on any trip where this is a known risk for you, precisely so it's within reach if you do need it during the transfer rather than buried in the boot.

Questions people ask before booking
Can you guarantee a car has never carried a pet?
No — we can't make a blanket guarantee across a shared fleet. What we can do is take a note about your allergy seriously and route around it where it's possible to.
How do I flag an animal allergy when booking?
Use the notes field at booking and be specific about what triggers it and how severe it is. That's read before a car is assigned to your ride.
Will this affect my price?
No — the fixed price shown before you book covers the ride itself, not any particular vehicle request.
What if I have a severe reaction risk, not just discomfort?
Say so plainly in the notes, including how severe it is. We'd rather know clearly in advance than have you find out at the kerb.
Does this apply to a departure booking too, not just arrival?
Yes — add the same note whichever direction you're travelling. The allergy doesn't change based on whether it's an arrival, a departure or a point-to-point ride.
Should I still carry antihistamines with me regardless?
It's sensible to, for any trip where allergies are a known risk for you, so they're within reach in the car rather than packed away in checked luggage.
