You're still at home, bags packed, and the airline's app shows your flight has slipped by an hour or two. The instinct is to relax and push your pickup back by the same amount — but a delayed departure doesn't always mean a delayed check-in, and that gap is where people end up rushing anyway.
This is about what a departure delay actually changes and doesn't, and how to move your pickup without accidentally cutting your own margin.
Why a delayed departure doesn't always mean more time
Airlines set check-in and bag-drop deadlines against the original scheduled departure in many cases, and a late-announced delay doesn't automatically move those deadlines with it — the counter can close at the time originally published even though the plane itself leaves later. Airlines vary on this and can change it flight by flight, so treat a shown delay as informative, not as an automatic extension of your own morning.
The safe approach is to check your airline's app or website for whether check-in or bag-drop deadlines have actually moved, not just the departure time. If it doesn't say clearly, assume the original deadline still applies and plan against that.
For a departure, your pickup doesn't move on its own
This is the detail that catches people out: on an arrival, we track your flight and move your pickup automatically to meet you as you land. On a departure, that's reversed — you chose the pickup time, and it stays where you set it unless you actively change it, because we don't know when a delayed departure will still require you at the counter.

How to change your pickup safely
If you've confirmed the check-in deadline has genuinely moved and you want a later pickup, changing the time on the same day and route is free, subject to a car being available — contact us as soon as you decide, not right before the original pickup time, since availability is tighter the closer you get to it.
If you're not certain the deadline moved, or the delay is small, the safer choice is to keep the original pickup and simply wait a little at the airport rather than gamble on a check-in cutoff that didn't actually shift.
