Sleeping at the Airport vs Booking a Ride at 3 a.m.

A terminal floor or a bench is rarely genuine sleep — most people who try it get a broken few hours at best, arriving at the gate already tired before a flight that may itself be long. A very early pickup from your own bed, even with a short night's sleep, generally gets you to the same gate having actually rested somewhere comfortable, even if only briefly.

Sleeping in a public terminal overnight means your belongings and your alertness are both more exposed than they would be at home — not a dramatic risk, but a real one worth weighing, especially travelling alone. It also means arriving at check-in already having spent hours in the terminal rather than arriving fresh and ready to move through the process.

The appeal of sleeping at the airport is usually cost — avoiding a hotel night and, for some, the idea that a very early ride costs extra. Neither has to be true. There's no night surcharge on any pickup, whatever the hour, and the fixed price is exactly the same at 3 a.m. as it would be at any other time. If cost is the real driver, an early pickup from home isn't actually the more expensive option it might seem.

If several of you are catching the same early flight, one shared booking is often the more comfortable and cost-effective choice over sleeping separately at the terminal or each arranging their own ride — the price is for the car, not per passenger, so splitting one booking between a group travelling together makes a very early pickup considerably less to worry about individually.
