Driving it to Arlanda yourself
Returning at the airport keeps the rental company's own drop-off point in the loop, which some companies prefer or require depending on where you picked the car up. The trade-off is that you're the one navigating to the return area, finding a fuel station if the contract requires a full tank, and then getting yourself and your luggage from the rental desk to check-in — on the day you least want an extra unknown in the schedule.
It also means driving in unfamiliar signage right before a flight, with whatever traffic the E4 happens to be carrying that morning. Manageable, but it's added load on a day that already has a fixed deadline.
Dropping it in the city and booking a transfer
Many rental companies operate a city-centre location as well as an airport one, which lets you return the car closer to where you're staying and remove the airport drive from your morning entirely. From there, a booked transfer takes you the rest of the way with a fixed price agreed before you travel and a pickup time that follows your flight if you give us the number.
This generally suits travellers who'd rather not navigate airport signage under time pressure, or whose accommodation is well outside the airport's direction and doubles back if the return point is at Arlanda.
