Count Your Bags Before the Car Leaves: A Simple Habit

Before the car leaves the kerb — either at pickup, loaded and ready to go, or at your destination, unloaded and in your hands — count your bags out loud, or at least consciously, against the number you started with. It sounds almost too simple to matter, but it's the single most effective thing you can do, precisely because the moment of distraction (a child needing attention, a phone ringing, a door needing to be opened) is exactly when a bag gets forgotten.

A visible name tag or a distinctive marker on each bag makes it easier to spot at a glance whether everything's accounted for, especially with multiple similar-looking cases in one group. It also means a bag that does get separated from you is easier to identify and return.
