Travelling with a Mobility Scooter
Updated 3 min read
Mobility scooters come apart very differently depending on the model — some fold or dismantle into pieces that fit a normal boot, others are a single solid unit that's heavier and larger than most cars can accommodate. There isn't one honest answer to whether a scooter fits; it depends entirely on the specific model you have.
Here's what to share when you book, and why it's worth waiting for confirmation before treating the ride as settled.

Wait for confirmation before relying on it
Once you've shared the details, we confirm a suitable vehicle before your booking is treated as settled — this is one situation where it's genuinely worth waiting for that confirmation rather than assuming any car will do, since the range between scooter models is wide enough that a wrong assumption causes a real problem at the kerb.
If the scooter needs to stay assembled
If you're not able to dismantle the scooter yourself, or it needs to travel assembled for any reason, say so clearly — that changes what we need to confirm and may mean a different vehicle than a scooter that folds down small.
Getting help loading it
Loading a heavier scooter, even a folding one, can be more than a single person wants to manage alone, especially after a flight. Mention in your notes if you'd appreciate help — that's a reasonable request alongside the vehicle confirmation, and it means the driver arrives expecting to assist rather than finding out at the kerb.

Questions people ask before booking
Will any car fit my mobility scooter?
It depends entirely on the model — some fold or dismantle to fit a Standard car, others don't. Share the make, model, weight and dimensions so we can confirm a suitable vehicle.
What if I don't know my scooter's exact dimensions?
Give your best estimate and mention whether it folds or dismantles — that's usually enough for us to work out a suitable category and confirm before your booking is settled.
Should I wait for confirmation before finalising travel plans?
Yes — given how much scooter models vary, it's worth waiting for our confirmation of a suitable vehicle rather than assuming any category will work.
Is there an extra charge for a mobility scooter?
No separate charge for the scooter itself — if a bigger category is needed to fit it, that's reflected in the fixed price shown before you book.
Should I confirm the same details again for a return trip?
It's worth including the same scooter details on your return booking too, so it's confirmed for that leg just as it was for the first.
What if my scooter is heavier than most and needs a specific ramp?
Say so explicitly — ramps and loading equipment vary by vehicle, and this is exactly the kind of detail we need to confirm a genuinely suitable car in advance.
Does the confirmation process take long?
It varies — allow some time rather than expecting an instant answer, particularly if you're booking well ahead of your travel date.
