Pet Carriers in the Car: Sizes and Requests
Updated 3 min read
A small pet in a carrier is one of the more common requests we get, and it's a straightforward one to accommodate — as long as it's requested before the car is booked, not mentioned for the first time at the kerb. A carrier takes real floor or seat space alongside your luggage, and that's worth planning for.
Here's what to include so the car that meets you actually has room.

What to say when you request the animal
- The type of animal and roughly its size
- The carrier's approximate dimensions
- Whether it will sit on the floor, on a seat, or on your lap
Carriers and luggage together
A typical small-to-medium pet carrier takes up floor or seat space rather than boot space, so it doesn't usually eat into your luggage-unit budget the way a bag would — but it does need a passenger seat or footwell kept clear for it, which is worth factoring in if your group is already at the passenger limit for a category.
More than one small pet
Travelling with more than one carrier — say, two cats in separate carriers — means two spaces to account for rather than one, which can matter more for a full group booking than a single traveller with one pet. Give the total number of carriers and their approximate sizes so we can confirm the arrangement genuinely works for your group.
Import paperwork still applies
None of this replaces the import paperwork Sweden requires for pets entering the country — microchipping, vaccination and documentation set by Jordbruksverket, the Swedish Board of Agriculture. That's a separate step to sort before you fly, entirely apart from how the carrier travels in the car.

Questions people ask before booking
Do I need to request a pet before booking, or can I mention it at pickup?
Request it when you book — give the animal type, size, and carrier dimensions so a suitable car can be arranged in advance, rather than at the kerb.
Does a pet carrier count against my luggage allowance?
It mostly takes floor or seat space rather than boot space, so it doesn't usually eat into your luggage-unit budget, but it's worth mentioning if your group is already at a category's passenger limit.
Is there an extra charge for travelling with a pet?
No — the fixed price shown before you book covers the ride for the whole car, with no separate pet surcharge.
What if my pet needs to be on my lap rather than in a carrier?
Mention that specifically in your request — how the animal will actually travel is useful detail for the driver to know in advance.
Do I need to bring the carrier myself?
Yes — bring your own suitable carrier for the animal; that's part of what we're confirming space for when you request the pet at booking.
Does the carrier need to be secured with a seatbelt?
Mention if you'd like it secured a particular way — the driver can position it sensibly, but tell us in advance if you have a specific preference.
Can a carrier and a suitcase both fit in a Standard car?
Usually yes, since the carrier mostly takes floor or seat space rather than boot space — give both details when you book so we can confirm.
Should I mention if my pet gets anxious in cars?
It's worth a brief note if a calmer, unhurried approach at pickup would help — the driver can factor that in once they know.
