Tandem and Cargo Bikes

It's worth being direct about this one: a tandem bike or a cargo bike is one of the few things that genuinely doesn't fit in most passenger cars, even our largest category. This isn't a case of squeezing it in with the right angle — the frame length alone is usually longer than any boot or folded rear seat we have.

This guide explains why, what to check before you book anyway, and what the honest alternative looks like if the answer is no.

Why the length is the problem

A standard bicycle, partly disassembled with the front wheel off, can sometimes work in an SUV/XL or Minibus if the frame is small enough and the rest of the luggage is light. A tandem's frame is roughly twice the length of a standard bike and doesn't shorten meaningfully when the wheels come off. A cargo bike, whether a longtail or a box-front design, has the same problem from the opposite end — width and a rigid frame rather than length, but the same outcome.

Neither of these is a judgement on the bike — it's a straightforward measurement problem. Our vehicle categories are built for passengers and their luggage, not for bicycle-length freight.

Check before you book

If you have a tandem or cargo bike and you're not sure, give us the frame length and whether it disassembles at all before you book. We'll tell you plainly whether it's realistic for a specific category — and if it isn't, we'd rather say so up front than accept the booking and have it discovered at pickup.

If it doesn't fit

For a tandem or cargo bike that doesn't fit any car, a dedicated bike courier or freight option built for that size of item is the honest answer — it's a different kind of service from passenger transport, and pretending otherwise would waste your time on the day. We can still take you and your other luggage as a normal booking; it's just the bike itself that needs a separate route.

What travels more easily

A single standard bike, disassembled with pedals and front wheel off, is a more realistic ask for the SUV/XL or Minibus categories — note it in your booking with rough dimensions and we'll confirm before pickup.

Questions people ask before booking

Can a tandem bike fit in your largest vehicle?

Generally, no — a tandem's frame length is longer than the boot or folded seat space in any of our categories, even the Minibus.

What about a cargo bike?

Also unlikely, for a different reason — width and a rigid frame rather than length. We'll give you a straight answer if you tell us the dimensions before booking.

Is there any way to make it work?

If the bike genuinely disassembles down to a much smaller size, it's worth asking. Otherwise, a dedicated bike freight or courier service is the honest option for a tandem or cargo bike.

Will you still take me and my luggage if the bike doesn't fit?

Yes — book your transfer normally for yourself and your luggage, and arrange the bike separately through a courier built for that size of item.

Does it cost anything to ask whether a bike will fit?
