Wheelchair Users: Booking a Suitable Car from Arlanda
Updated 3 min read
The single biggest question for a wheelchair user booking a transfer isn't the price or the route — it's whether your chair folds down small enough to go in a boot, or whether you need a vehicle with a ramp and space to travel in the chair itself. Those are two genuinely different kinds of trip, and getting the answer right before you book matters more than almost anything else on this page.
This guide walks through the questions we ask, what we confirm before pickup, and why we'd rather be upfront about what we can and can't promise than let you find out at the kerb.

Folding chair versus staying in the chair
A manual folding wheelchair, or a power chair that folds and whose battery can be removed, generally works with our standard vehicle categories — the chair goes in the boot, and you transfer to the car seat as you would with any other passenger car. This is the more common case and the one we can plan for reliably.
A chair that doesn't fold, or where transferring out of the chair isn't possible or appropriate, needs a ramp or lowered-floor vehicle instead — a different kind of vehicle from a standard taxi. We do not promise a ramp vehicle is always available; tell us in advance so we can confirm what's genuinely possible for your specific trip rather than assuming.
What we ask when you book
When you note that you're a wheelchair user, we'll ask whether the chair folds, its approximate weight and dimensions folded, whether it's manual or powered, and whether you're able to transfer to a car seat. These questions exist to match you to a car that actually works, not to slow the booking down.
- Does the chair fold, and roughly to what size?
- Is it manual or powered, and does the battery need to be removed to fold it?
- Can you transfer to a standard car seat, or do you need to travel seated in the chair?
Confirmed before pickup, not assumed
Once we know what your trip needs, we confirm the vehicle before pickup — you're not left guessing whether the right car will actually show up. If a ramp vehicle is needed and isn't available for your date or time, we'll tell you honestly rather than send something that doesn't work, so you can plan around it in advance.
Luggage alongside the chair
A folded wheelchair takes up space similar to a large suitcase in the boot's unit system, so if you're also travelling with a full set of luggage, mention both together — the vehicle category needs to account for the chair and the bags, not just the chair on its own.

Questions people ask before booking
Do you guarantee a ramp-accessible vehicle?
No — we don't promise one is always available. Tell us your needs when you book and we'll confirm what's genuinely possible before pickup, rather than assume.
Will a folding wheelchair fit in a standard car?
Usually, yes — it goes in the boot much like a large suitcase, and you transfer to the car seat as you would in any passenger car.
What if I can't transfer out of my chair?
Tell us at booking. It changes what kind of vehicle your trip needs, and we'll confirm honestly whether a suitable vehicle is available rather than send one that isn't right.
Does a power chair need the battery removed?
It depends on the chair and how it folds — mention whether yours does when you book so it's accounted for properly.
Is there an extra charge for a wheelchair-accessible booking?
The price follows the vehicle category and route, shown before you book, the same as any other trip.
Can I bring luggage as well as my wheelchair?
Yes — mention both together when you book so the category chosen has room for the folded chair and your bags.
