Arriving at Arlanda with a Guide or Assistance Dog

Guide dogs and assistance dogs travel free and always with Förare. There's no request to make at booking, no form to fill in specifically for the dog, and no driver who can refuse — this applies across every vehicle category we run, every time.

You don't need to mention it in advance unless you want to for your own peace of mind, though you're welcome to note it in the booking form if that's more reassuring than relying on the rule alone.

Separately from how the dog travels in the car, Sweden — like the rest of the EU — has entry requirements for any dog entering the country, assistance dogs included: microchipping and vaccination status, and depending on where you're travelling from, further documentation. This is a border question, not a transfer question, and it's checked before you'd normally reach a transfer driver.

The Swedish Board of Agriculture (Jordbruksverket) publishes the current requirements — check jordbruksverket.se before you fly if you're bringing your assistance dog from outside Sweden, since some conditions need to be arranged in advance rather than at the airport itself.

Once you and your dog are through any entry checks, the rest of your arrival is the same as any passenger's: your driver's name, phone number and licence plate are sent to you before pickup, and the car that arrives is ready for the dog as a matter of course — nothing to arrange or confirm at the kerb.

If it would put your mind at ease, you're welcome to mention in your booking notes that you're travelling with an assistance dog, simply so your driver knows what to expect when they meet you.
