Bus, Train or Car from Arlanda: Choosing by Your Situation

This is public transport's strongest case. The airport train runs frequently and gets you into central Stockholm quickly, and airport coaches reach a wider set of destinations for less. If you're travelling with just a backpack or a single case, know roughly where you're going, and don't mind managing your own bags through a station, either option is a perfectly sensible choice and there's no real reason to spend more on a car.

This is where the maths starts to shift. Public transport charges per person, and a family or group with a full set of luggage is managing multiple tickets, multiple sets of bags, and potentially a change of platform or vehicle along the way. A car charges once for the whole vehicle regardless of how many of you there are, and takes you door to door without any of the logistics of a station transfer.

Public transport at Arlanda generally still runs late, but a long flight followed by navigating a station, working out a ticket machine, and finding the right platform is a genuinely different experience at midnight than at midday. If you'd rather not think at all after landing, a pre-booked car that already knows your flight and address removes every one of those decisions.

If you need a clean, VAT-itemised receipt for expensing, a car booked with the company option gives you that automatically, made out to a company where needed. Public transport tickets can usually be expensed too, but the paperwork and per-leg tracking is more fiddly if your trip involves more than one ticket.

None of the above is meant to tell you the answer in advance — it's meant to help you ask the right question for your actual situation. Work out how many of you are travelling, how much luggage you're carrying, what time you're arriving, and whether a receipt matters, and the right choice tends to become fairly obvious once those factors are laid out honestly rather than guessed at under time pressure at the airport.
