Airport Parking or a Transfer Both Ways: A Method for Comparing

Start with the long-stay parking rate for your trip's actual length, from Arlanda's own current pricing — that's the headline figure most people compare against. But add in what it usually leaves out: the time and fuel or transport cost to get yourself to and from the car park at each end, and the wear of driving to and from an airport while tired after a flight.

It's also worth being honest with yourself about how often that last part — driving home exhausted after a long trip — is actually the part you'd rather not do, even before any cost comparison.

A transfer both ways is two separate fixed prices — one out to Arlanda, one back — each shown to you before you book, for your specific route. Add them together for the true total, rather than assuming a return trip is simply double a one-way guess.

1. Note the long-stay parking rate for your trip's actual length from Arlanda's current pricing.
2. Add your own estimate of getting to and from the car park — time, fuel, wear on the car.
3. Get the fixed price for a transfer out to Arlanda, and the fixed price back, both shown before you book.
4. Compare the two totals honestly, including the parts of driving yourself that don't show up as a line item — the tiredness, the time you're not doing anything else.

For a short trip, parking your own car is often genuinely the more economical choice, and there's no reason to avoid it if that's what the numbers say for you. For a longer trip, or a trip where you'd rather not drive tired at either end, a return transfer can work out comparably while removing the driving entirely — that's a real trade-off worth making deliberately, not a claim that one option always wins.
