Will I Always Get an Electric Car If I Choose Electric?
Updated 3 min read
Choosing Electric at booking is a genuine preference many travellers have, and it's worth being straightforward about what selecting it actually guarantees, rather than let the category name imply more certainty than we can back up.
The honest version: we send an electric vehicle wherever one is available for your exact time and route, and if that specific match isn't possible, we tell you rather than quietly substitute something else and hope you don't notice.

What choosing Electric actually does
Selecting Electric at booking tells us to prioritise an electric vehicle for your trip. For most bookings, made with reasonable notice, that's exactly what you get — the category exists because we have electric cars in the fleet and the ability to assign them to specific trips.
What can get in the way
Availability depends on which vehicles are free at your exact pickup time and in the right location — the same constraint that applies to every category, not something unique to Electric. A very short-notice booking, an unusual time of day, or a route that puts a car far from where it's needed can all mean the specific electric vehicle you'd expect isn't the one available.
What happens if none is available
If we can't match your booking to an electric vehicle, we tell you rather than send a different category and let you find out at the kerb. You'd hear this before your trip, giving you the chance to decide whether to keep the booking with a different vehicle sent instead, or make other arrangements. We don't treat 'Electric' as a label we can quietly swap out.
What we can honestly say about the car itself
When an electric vehicle is sent, the only claim we make about it is that it's fully electric, with no local exhaust — that's the substantiated fact, and it's as far as the claim goes. We don't describe any category as having no environmental impact at all, or as having no climate footprint at all or environmentally virtuous, because once manufacturing and the wider electricity supply are counted, those broader claims don't hold up, and we'd rather be precise than impressive.
This matters more than it might seem, because a category name alone can carry an implied promise it hasn't actually made. We'd rather you choose Electric knowing exactly what it does and doesn't claim than assume more from the label than the car itself can support.
Booking with the right expectations either way
None of this changes what the category actually offers: the same seats and luggage as Standard, the same fixed price shown before you pay, and the same guarantees on flight tracking and waiting time. Choosing Electric is simply a preference about the vehicle itself, backed by a claim we can stand behind rather than one that sounds bigger than it is.

Questions people ask before booking
If I select Electric, am I guaranteed one?
We prioritise an electric vehicle for your trip and it's what most bookings receive, but availability depends on your exact time and route. If we can't match it, we tell you before your trip rather than substitute quietly.
Does booking further ahead improve the chance of getting an electric car?
Generally yes — more notice gives us more room to match the right vehicle to your specific pickup time and location, the same as it does for every category.
What happens to the price if I'm switched from Electric to another category?
We'd tell you about the change before your trip and agree the arrangement with you — you wouldn't be charged for a category you didn't ultimately receive without being told first.
What can you say about the environmental impact of the electric cars?
Only that they're fully electric with no local exhaust — that's what we can substantiate. We don't describe any vehicle as having no environmental impact at all or as having no climate footprint at all, since that depends on more than the car itself.
Can I request Electric for one leg of a trip and something else for another?
Yes — each booking is its own trip with its own category choice, so you can choose differently for an arrival and a departure, for example.
