How Many Bags Fit? Luggage Units Explained

Every vehicle category carries one combined luggage budget rather than a separate cap for large bags and small ones. A large checked case counts as two units; a cabin-sized bag counts as one. You can spend that budget however your group is actually packed — two large cases and two cabin bags, or one large case and four cabin bags, cost the same number of units. Each category also has a cap on full-size cases, because a boot's opening limits how many go in whatever the arithmetic says.

• Standard, Electric and Business: 4 passengers, a 6-unit luggage budget, at most 2 large cases and 4 pieces in total (2 large bags + 2 cabin bags, or 4 cabin bags)
• SUV / XL: 6 passengers, a 10-unit luggage budget, up to 4 large cases
• Minibus: 8 passengers, an 18-unit luggage budget, up to 8 large cases

Add up your bags using the unit rule — each large case as two, each cabin bag as one — and compare the total against the budget for the category you're considering. A family of four with two large cases and two cabin bags comes to six units, which exactly fills a Standard car's six-unit budget — and four pieces is also the saloon categories' piece limit, so any fifth bag means SUV / XL.

If you turn up with more luggage than you planned for — a bag bought while travelling, something that didn't fit on the outbound flight — it isn't a reason to cancel or to be turned away.
