Why Prepaid? What Paying Up Front Protects You From
Updated 3 min read
Paying for a car before you've even taken the trip can feel like the wrong way round, especially if you're used to a taxi you pay at the end once you know exactly what you got. It's a fair hesitation, and it's worth explaining plainly what prepayment is actually buying you, rather than just asking you to trust it.
Here's what paying up front protects you from, and what happens if your plans change afterward.

The price is locked the moment you pay
Once you've paid, the fixed price you agreed to is the price for that trip — full stop. Traffic, the route the driver takes, how long the journey actually ends up taking: none of it changes what's already been charged. Paying up front is what makes that lock possible; there's no meter running afterward that could produce a different number.
Nothing to sort out at the kerb
Because the trip is already paid for, there's no payment step when your driver arrives — no card reader, no working out whether a tip is expected, no fumbling with a wallet while managing luggage and possibly kids or jet lag. You're simply met, and you get in.
Your receipt is ready before you even travel
A prepaid booking generates its receipt at the point of payment, with the VAT line included, so it's sitting in your inbox before the trip even happens — useful if you need to file an expense claim quickly, or if you simply want a record without having to remember to ask for one afterward.
What if your plans change?
Prepaying doesn't mean losing flexibility. Cancel more than 12 hours before pickup and you're refunded in full to the payment method you used. Within 12 hours, contact us as soon as you know — where we can resell or reassign the trip we refund what we can, and either way we tell you the outcome.
What it means for a first-time visitor
For someone unfamiliar with Sweden, prepaying also removes a specific kind of stress: not knowing what's a reasonable amount to pay, not having local currency ready, not being sure how tipping works here. None of that has to be figured out at the kerb, because the transaction is already done by the time you land.
What every Förare booking includes

- Flight tracked — pickup follows your live arrival
- 45 minutes free waiting, from your driver's confirmed arrival
- No terminal fee
- No surge pricing, ever
- Free cancellation up to 12 hours
Questions people ask before booking
Why does Förare ask me to pay before the trip instead of after?
Paying up front is what locks in the fixed price — it can't change afterward regardless of traffic or route, and it removes any payment step when the driver arrives.
What if I need to cancel after paying?
Free cancellation more than 12 hours before pickup, refunded in full. Within 12 hours, contact us and we refund what we can where the trip can be resold or reassigned.
Do I get my receipt before or after the trip?
Before — your receipt with the VAT line is generated at the point of payment, ready well before your pickup.
Is there anything to pay when the driver arrives?
No — the trip is fully paid for at booking, so there's nothing to settle at the kerb.
Does prepaying mean I lose money if my flight is delayed?
No — on airport pickups your pickup time follows your flight's actual landing, so a delay doesn't put your prepaid booking at risk.
Is prepaying particularly useful for a first-time visitor to Sweden?
Often, yes — it removes the need to work out local currency, a fair amount to pay, or tipping norms at the kerb, since the trip is already settled before you land.
