How Refunds Work and How Long They Take to Reach You
Updated 3 min read
Cancelling a booking and seeing the confirmation is the easy part — then comes the slightly more anxious wait for the money to actually land back in your account, watching a banking app for a figure that hasn't shown up yet. It helps to know what's actually happening during that wait, and roughly what's normal.
Here's how a Förare refund works once a cancellation is confirmed, and what to do if it seems to be taking longer than expected.

Where the refund goes
A refund goes back to the original payment method you used at checkout — the same card, wallet or Klarna payment, rather than being issued as a separate voucher or credit. That's true whether the cancellation was made by you more than 12 hours ahead, or handled by us in a case like a flight cancelled by the airline.
Why the timing isn't entirely in our hands
Once we confirm a cancellation, the refund is issued from our side, but how quickly it actually appears in your account or on your statement depends on your bank's or card issuer's own processing time, not ours. Different banks and different payment methods process incoming refunds at different speeds, which is why two people cancelling on the same day can see the money land at noticeably different times.
If it hasn't appeared after a reasonable wait
If a refund is taking longer than seems reasonable, the first place to check is your bank statement or app directly — refunds sometimes post without a notification, so it's worth looking rather than only waiting for an alert. If it genuinely hasn't appeared after checking there, contact us with your booking details and we can confirm on our side that the refund was issued and when.
What we can and can't speed up
We issue the refund on our side as soon as a cancellation is confirmed — that part happens promptly. What we genuinely can't control is how fast a bank moves a refund from being issued to actually showing on your statement, since that's a step handled entirely by your bank's own systems, separate from ours.

Questions people ask before booking
How is my refund paid out after cancelling?
To the original payment method used at checkout — the same card, wallet or Klarna payment, not a separate voucher or credit.
How long does a refund take to appear?
It depends on your bank's or card issuer's own processing time once we've confirmed the cancellation on our side — different methods and banks process at different speeds.
It's been a while and I still don't see the refund — what should I do?
Check your bank statement directly first, since refunds sometimes post without a separate notification. If it genuinely hasn't appeared, contact us with your booking details.
Do I get refunded in full for a free cancellation?
Yes — cancelling more than 12 hours before pickup is refunded in full to your original payment method.
Is the refund process different for Klarna compared with a card?
The principle is the same — refunded to the original method — but the exact processing time follows however that specific payment method normally handles refunds.
Do you issue the refund quickly on your end?
Yes — we issue it as soon as a cancellation is confirmed. The remaining time is your bank's own processing, which is outside our control.
Will I get a confirmation once the refund has been issued?
Yes — you're told once the cancellation and refund have been confirmed on our side, separate from when it actually appears in your account.
