Waiting Time at Your Door: What the Rule Is for Departures
Updated 3 min read
An airport arrival has a flight to track, so the pickup time can move with it. A departure from home doesn't have that — the pickup time you booked is the pickup time, and it's worth knowing exactly how the free waiting window applies when there's no landing time to follow instead.
This guide explains how waiting works on a departure pickup, what it means to be ready at your booked time, and what to do if you're running behind.

How the window works without a flight to track
Free waiting counts from the moment your driver confirms arrival at your address, the same as on any pickup — but on a departure there's no actual landing time to adjust the pickup against, so your driver confirms arrival at the time you booked. That's the moment the window opens, and it's a fixed point rather than one that shifts.
In practice, that means the booked time is the one to plan around. If you asked for pickup at 06:00, your driver is confirming arrival around 06:00, not adjusting for anything on your end the way flight tracking adjusts for a plane.
Being ready at the booked time
"Ready" means downstairs, at the entrance, or wherever you specified in your booking notes — not still packing when the driver messages to say they've arrived. If your address has a buzzer system, a gate code or a building that's easy to miss from the street, put it in the notes when you book so your driver isn't guessing at the kerb.
None of this is about catching you out. It's simply that the free window is there to absorb a normal amount of last-minute delay — a lift that's slow, a forgotten passport retrieved from upstairs — not to replace being roughly ready when the car turns up.
If your flight departure time changes
A departure pickup is built around your flight leaving at a certain time, so if your flight moves, the pickup should move with it — that's a change to make before the day, not something to sort out with your driver at the door. Update the booking as soon as you know your flight has shifted, and the pickup time updates with it.
If you're going to be late
Call or message your driver as soon as you know you'll be later than expected — you'll have their number sent before pickup. Letting them know early is always better than letting the clock run and hoping it works out; we'd rather talk to you than guess.

Questions people ask before booking
When does the waiting window start on a departure pickup?
From the moment your driver confirms arrival at your address, at the time you booked — there's no flight to adjust it against on a departure, so the booked time is the fixed point.
What does 'being ready' actually mean for a home pickup?
Downstairs, at your entrance, or wherever you noted in your booking — not still getting ready when your driver messages that they've arrived.
My flight time changed — does my pickup change automatically?
Not on its own for a departure the way an arrival's pickup follows a landing. Update your booking with the new flight time as soon as you know, and your pickup adjusts.
What should I do if I'm running late for my own pickup?
Call or message your driver straight away on the number sent before pickup, or contact us directly — telling us early is always the right move.
Does the free waiting window differ for a home pickup versus an airport one?
The window itself works the same way — counted from your driver's confirmed arrival — the only difference is what that arrival time is set against: your booked time at home, your actual landing time at the airport.
