Turned Up with One Bag More Than You Booked?

Updated 3 min read

You booked for a certain amount of luggage, and then somewhere between booking and boarding, one more bag joined the group — a last-minute purchase, something a family member handed you, a case that turned out heavier and bulkier than you'd pictured. It's one of the most common small surprises in travel, and it's worth knowing exactly what happens rather than guessing at the kerb.

The short version: one extra bag is not a cancellation, and it's not something you need to hide, apologise for, or squeeze into a boot that doesn't fit it.

Why an extra bag isn't treated as a broken booking

Every vehicle category has a combined luggage budget it's built for — a large case counting for more than a cabin bag, spent however your bags are actually packed. One extra bag is simply a change to that count, not a different kind of trip. It doesn't cancel anything, and it doesn't need to be a source of stress on the day.

If it fits: nothing changes

If your vehicle category's luggage budget has room for the extra bag, that's the end of it — your driver loads it, and the trip carries on as booked. Categories are sized with some margin precisely so a bag or two of flex doesn't automatically mean a problem.

If it doesn't fit: we send a bigger car

If the extra bag genuinely pushes you past what your booked category can carry, the answer isn't to leave it behind or wedge it in somewhere unsafe — it's to move you to a vehicle category with the room. Tell us as soon as you know, ideally before you're standing at the kerb with it, and we sort out the right car rather than you finding out it doesn't fit only once you're there.

Moving to a larger category can mean a different price than the one you originally booked, since it's genuinely a different vehicle — but it's a straightforward change, not a penalty, and it's always better to raise it early.

The best time to mention it

If you already suspect you'll have more luggage than you booked for — a gift you're bringing home, equipment you didn't originally plan on — the notes field at booking is the place to say so. Confirming it before pickup means there's no uncertainty waiting for you at pickup.

Questions people ask before booking

I have one more bag than I booked for — do I need to cancel and rebook?

No. One extra bag is not a cancellation. If it fits your vehicle category's luggage budget, nothing changes; if it doesn't, tell us and we send a bigger car.

How do I know if my extra bag will fit?

Each vehicle category has a stated luggage budget shown when you book. If you're not sure your extra bag fits within it, mention it in your booking notes or contact us and we'll confirm.

Does adding a bag change my price?

Only if it requires moving to a larger vehicle category — the price reflects the vehicle actually sent, not the one originally booked, if that has to change.

When should I tell you about an extra bag?

As soon as you know, ideally before you pay, using the notes field — the earlier we know, the more smoothly it's handled.

What if I only realise I have an extra bag at the airport?

Contact us directly as soon as you realise — we'd rather adjust the car sent than have you stuck at the kerb wondering if it fits.
